Steady Start, Challenging Finish Martino began the race with a promising pace, clocking under 10 minutes per mile for the first nine miles. Notably, mile 8 showcased a split time of 8:18, his fastest split pace of the race, demonstrating a powerful effort. Up to the halfway mark, Martino maintained an average pace of roughly 9:09 min/mile, putting him in an encouraging position in the M15-18 division. In the second half, around mile 15, Martino's pace began to shift. The split time of 13:01 for mile 15 indicates a notable decrease in momentum. From mile 19 onwards, the pace moved above 14 min/mile. This progression suggests potential benefits in endurance training to sustain early race paces throughout the marathon. Despite the deceleration, Martino finished strong with an overall time of 5:10:08 and completed an impressive marathon representing Team BAKE. Encourage focusing on managing pacing during the latter race stages for future improvements.
