Course Descriptions
Marathon
The Las Vegas marathon course offers the best of Kyle Canyon, including breathtaking views of the forests and cliffs of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Runners will enjoy the fresh scent of towering pines, glimpses of mountain wildlife, and the charm of the Mt Charleston community as they run through the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. If that were not enough, the course is entirely downhill on a paved highway and is a Boston Marathon qualifier!
The marathon begins roughly 21 miles up Kyle Canyon Rd near the original Mt Charleston Lodge. Standing at 7,600 ft above sea level surrounded by snowcapped peaks and fresh mountain air, runners will feel a world away from nearby downtown Las Vegas. The course meanders through the Cathedral Rock area for the first mile before reaching the main stretch of Kyle Canyon Rd.
Once on the main highway, the route begins a 20-mile stretch of pure running bliss as the course heads downhill towards Las Vegas at a nearly steady 4% grade. Along the way runners will enjoy stunning views of the sun rising over nearby Gass Peak to the East and the Las Vegas Strip to the South.
The final five miles take runners through the beautiful palm-lined roads of the Centennial Hills neighborhood. Continuing its downhill slope the course ends at Arbor View High School, where delicious food awaits. This is the fastest and most beautiful marathon in Nevada!
Half Marathon
The Las Vegas Half Marathon course offers the best of Kyle Canyon, including breathtaking views of the mountain cliffs and deserts of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Runners will enjoy the canyon walls, glimpses of mountain wildlife, and the serenity of the beautiful Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. If that were not enough, the course is entirely downhill on a paved highway and offers the best PR opportunity around!
The half marathon course begins roughly eight miles up Kyle Canyon Rd near the Twilight Zone recreation area. Standing at 4,600 feet above sea level surrounded by snowcapped peaks and fresh mountain air, runners will feel a world away from nearby downtown Las Vegas.
The route begins by treating runners to an 8-mile stretch of pure running bliss as the course heads downhill towards Las Vegas at a nearly steady 4% grade.
The 702
The 7.02 mile race is a tribute to the local 702 area code
and offers an exciting tour of the city
within the shortest distance available.
Similar to the marathon and half marathon courses, the course takes runners through the beautiful palm-lined roads of the Centennial Hills neighborhood. The course ends at Arbor View High School, where delicious food awaits.
Pacing
Pacers will be running both the full marathon and half marathon
to lead everyone to a fast time. Pacers will be implementing Smart Pacing
strategy, which is an effort-based strategy that varies the pace of each mile according
to course elevation changes. Pace guide wristbands will be available at the expo.
The full marathon will include pacers at various Boston-qualifying
paces, including:
The half marathon will include pacers at the following paces:
1:30 (6:52/ mile)
1:40 (7:38/ mile)
1:50 (8:24/ mile)
2:00 (9:10/ mile)
2:10 (9:55/ mile)
2:20 (10:41/ mile
Time Limits
Because the roads used for the race must be re-opened for normal
traffic operations, we are required to set course time limits that
must be strictly adhered to. Marathon participants are required to meet
a pace of 15 minutes per mile, while half marathon participants are
required to keep a pace of 30 minutes per mile. This equates to a time limit
of 6 hours and 33 minutes to complete the course. While there is no set pace
requirement for the 702 race, participants will be required to complete the course
within the 6 hours and 33 minutes time limit set for the marathon and half marathon.
All three distances start at 6:00 AM and the race course closes at 12:33 PM.
Those who are unable to maintain the required pace must consent to
be picked up by an escort vehicle and escorted to the finish venue,
where they will still be allowed to cross the finish line and
receive a medal.
Based on the USATF certification standards the course is measured on
tangents or SPR-Shortest Possible Route. Therefore if you run on the
inside or outside line the entire length of the race your GPS may reflect
a distance slightly greater than 26.2, 13.1, or 7.02.
Aid Stations
Aid stations will be located approximately every two miles along the
courses, beginning at mile 3 of the marathon course. All aid stations
will be supplied with Skratch Labs Lemon Lime Electrolyte beverage, water, porta-potties, and basic first aid

advanced medical supplies. These aid stations will also have access to EMT
